N.C 28782 Polk County Charges McFalls In Murder Of Angelia Brown Frankie Dean McFalls was to be arrested and charged with murder by Polk County Sher iffs officers Friday, Sheriffs spokesperson Sue Pack said. McFalls was booked into Spartanburg County Jail at 6:45 p.m. Thursday on charges of kidnapping. (See story inside.) By noon Friday, Polk County Sheriff Boyce Carswell had announced that McFalls would be charged with murder in Polk County. Police had been looking for McFalls since the badly decomposed body of his com mon-law wife, Angelia Brown, 21, of Landrum, was found in a wooded area in Green Creek Nov. 22. He was found in Rei dsville, N.C. on Nov. 28. McFalls waived his extradi tion rights and was to be transported from South Carolina to Polk County on Friday afternoon. Correction The Great Seal of the State of North Carolina carries the slo gan in Latin, "Esse Quam Vid- eri." It means "to be rather than to seem." The seal, which is mounted behind the judge's bench in the Polk County Courthouse, was incorrectly identified as the Polk County seal in a communication Fri day. It was the Bulletin's error. MONDAY, DEC. 9,1991 "It Feels Good To Do Good" In less than six weeks 397 donations have been sent to Hospice of Polk County in response to its current fund drive. This support signifies a wish for continuation of Hospice's program of compassionate pro fessional care for terminally ill persons in their homes. Some contributions arc from grateful people who have experienced the care of a friend or loved one; other gifts are prompted by a belief that the program should be kept ready to serve persons who may someday need to call upon it. Contributions may be addressed to Hospice of Polk County, P.O. Box Y, Tryon, N.C. 28782. All are tax deduc tible. Gifts of any size will be greatly appreciated. They add up. —Community Reporter Special Service Fork Creek Baptist Fork Creek Baptist Church will have as special guests the Roy Knight Singers on Satur day, Dec. 14th at 7 p.m. Rev. John Saunders, pastor, and congregation invite every one to come. —Community Reporter 2lif Per t opy Sworn Into Office A handful of people and not one camera were on hand Thursday to swear in Colum bus's recently elected town officials. Clerk of Court Judy Arledge swore in Mayor Paul T. Smith and councilmen Mark West and Dr. Thomas V. Bolling as the main order of business during Thursday's regular Columbus Town Council meeting. West is the only newcomer to the coun cil. The new council voted a $200 Christmas bonus for all town employees as its only order of business. Mayor Smith reported on progress the town council has made in Columbus over the past two years. All but 20 feet of pipes have been installed for a new well near The Woods subdivision and only a chlorine machine is lacking to more than double the present water supply, reported the mayor. The new well will produce 375 gal./min. for the town's water supply, he added. Total cost of the new well will be $85,000, he said. The town has purchased a $28,000 back hoe and a $5,000 John Deere lawn mower, he reported. The town also donated $2,000 and a water fountain for the Stearns Park. Columbus now has four full time police officers, and the council adopted a sign and bill board ordinance, the mayor said of the town's progress. —C. Wharton
